About Madagascar Vanilla

The world’s finest and most consistent vanilla comes from Madagascar. Madagascar Bourbon Pure Vanilla from Nielsen-Massey has a creamy, sweet, velvety flavor that is perfectly suited for a range of products from baked goods to ice creams, salad dressings to barbeque sauces. Madagascar Bourbon vanilla does not have anything to do with the American whiskey of the same name, but is rather named for the Bourbon Islands off the coast of Africa. Madagascar supplies more than 60% of the world’s vanilla.

My Opinion

I have used a wide variety of vanillas in my years of cooking everything from real vanilla extracts to imitation and nothing compares to Nielsen-Massey's Vanilla. I am a big fan of all things vanilla; icecream, cookies, french toast and so forth.

I decided to make a batch of my specialty french toast for this review. My french toast consists of a blend of brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and vanilla. It took a very long time to find the right balance of each to get all the sweetness we love. When I opened the vanilla I didn't even have to have it up to my nose to be greeted and comforted by it sweet, warm, and inviting aroma. Right then I knew that I had found something wonderful.

It is like liquid velvet being poured from the bottle and is truly creamy as they have stated. It's difficult to capture the true essence of the flavor, as this is one of those "WOW, You have got to try this!" products. Now, tasting it by itself it does have a tart flavor to it, but when added to recipes it gives them that perfect touch. I would absolutely love to try making homemade ice cream and yogurt with this vanilla. With yogurt I would add just a touch of honey to the recipe as well.  For ice cream I would add a few spoonfuls of peach preserves in conjunction with the vanilla. This product is ideal for any recipe that call for vanilla to be used in it.

Everyone devoured the french toast and noticed that vanilla flavoring was more prominent then before. I will continue to use Nielsen-Massey Vanillas especially since my local grocer carries their products.
